Dr. Wilfred Wong joined Sands China Ltd., a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands Corp., in November 2015 as its President. He was appointed an executive director of the company in January 2016.
Dr. Wong has over 40 years of extensive management experience in both the public and private sectors. He served the Hong Kong government between 1975 and 1992, rising to the ranks of Deputy Secretary of Civil Service and Deputy Director-General of Industry. Dr. Wong then joined the private sector, heading a number of Hong Kong listed companies in the property development and construction business sectors. In public service, he was a member of the Hong Kong Basic Law Consultative Committee; member of the Preliminary Working Committee and subsequently the Preparatory Committee responsible for establishing the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Dr. Wong was also elected a member of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China for 15 years from 1997 to 2012. His current appointments by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR government include Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and Chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council. He is also appointed by the Macao SAR government as convenor of the Committee of Cultural Industries and the Tourism Development Committee.
For Dr. Wong’s long and distinguished public service, the Hong Kong SAR government appointed him as a Justice of the Peace in 2003, and awarded him with the Silver Bauhinia Star medal and the Gold Bauhinia Star medal in 2007 and 2015, respectively. Recognising his outstanding professional achievements as well as his remarkable contributions to society, he was conferred the degree of doctor of humanities honoris causa by Hong Kong Baptist University in November 2013.
Dr. Wong was educated at Harvard University (MPA), the University of Oxford, the University of Hong Kong (BSocSc) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
