Associate Professor, Department of Tourism Management in School of Economics and Management of Beijing Jiaotong University
Chen Yining is an Associate Professor in the Department of Tourism Management in School of Economics and Management of Beijing Jiaotong University, and a Visiting Scholar at University of Surrey. Her major research focuses in tourist behavior, tourism big data, tourism destination marketing, etc. She was one of deputy executive editors of Green Book of World Tourism Cities in 2013 and 2015, and a section editor-in-chief of Green Book of Beijing Tourism in 2018. She has conducted multiple provincial and ministerial research projects for various organizations and regions, as well as commissioned research for International Horticultural Exposition 2019 in Beijing. A holder of Philosophy of Doctorate Degree in Business Management, Dr. Chen is a specially appointed expert of WTCF Expert Committee and a member of Beijing Tourism Society

Tourism constitutes a central component in the economy, social life, and geography of many cities in the world. This session will examine the intersection of smart cities and smart tourism and how it will change the tourism experience. How can a smart city become a smart tourism destination? In the transition to smart tourism, what will be the effects on wellness tourism development? How can smart tourism and wellness tourism development counteract the effects of ‘over-tourism’? What have cities done to encourage wellness experiences for both residents and visitors, thereby increasing happiness? How can cities increase innovation and technological tools and improve tourism competitiveness? How can a city be future-ready?
