Bao Jigang, male, born in February 1964, is a national high-level talent and a professor at the School of Tourism, Sun Yat-sen University. He is also the Deputy Director of the Department of Economics and Management of Sun Yat-sen University, Director of the Research Center for Tourism Development and Planning of Sun Yat-sen University, President of the China Tourism Education Association (CTEA), Director of the Monitoring Center for UNWTO Sustainable Tourism Observatories (MCSTO), and member of International Academy for the Study of Tourism. He has presided over 8 major projects, including NSFC and National Outstanding Youth Science Fund projects, in the fields of natural science, social science and art. He has presided over the provincial tourism development planning of Guangdong Province, Hubei Province and Hunan Province, the city-level tourism development planning of Guilin, Suzhou, Huangshan, Zhangjiajie, Xishuangbanna, Zhuhai and other cities, and the tourist area planning of Kanas in Xinjiang, Great Shangri-La and other areas; As a case of poverty reduction through the development of tourism in China, the "Azheke Plan", advocated and presided over by him has been awarded the fourth Top Ten Typical Projects of Targeted Poverty Alleviation among universities directly under the Ministry of Education, the "Top 100 Cases of Poverty Reduction through Tourism" by the World Tourism Alliance, and has been selected into the CCTV documentary Get Out of Poverty, and the large-scale documentary China's Prescription for Poverty by Xinhua News Agency. Relying on the UNWTO, he has set up nine UNWTO sustainable tourism observatories in China to provide intellectual support for local sustainable tourism development and present a real China to the international community through tourism and rural areas. He has won nearly 50 awards of various kinds, including the UNWTO Ulysses Prize and Awards (the first winner in China), the May 1st Labor Medal of Guangdong Province, the Award of Outstanding Contribution to the Construction of the Geographical Society of China, the title of Outstanding Contributor to Tourism Education in the first "List of Figures in Tourism Education", the "Most Influential Scholars in the Global Tourism Industry" (the only Chinese scholar), and the Excellent Teachers of Zhuhai City.
