Long Yongtu

Former Vice Minister of Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, PRC

Long Yongtu has been appointed as a member of the Council of Advisors, Boao Forum for Asia from July 2010. He was previously elected by the Board of Directors of Boao Forum for Asia as the Secretary-General in January 2003, overseeing the promotion on the development of Asian countries through greater economic integration across the region. In the capacity of Vice Minister of Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) in February 1997, Mr. Long served as Chief Representative for Trade Negotiations on China’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), successfully sealed China’s entry to WTO in 2001 after 15 years of negotiation. Mr. Long also worked for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and is now a Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Currently the Honorary Chairman of Global Tourism Economy Forum, Mr. Long is a visiting professor of various renowned Chinese academic institutions, including the Peking University, Tsinghua University and Renmin University. He was Dean of School of International Relations and Public Affairs, as well as Dean of Institute of International Studies, Fudan University. Mr. Long was awarded People of the Year in Economics by China Central Television in 2003. In 2004, he received the Award of Excellence by Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, for his outstanding contribution to the United Nations-China partnership and promoting its values.

Mr. Long holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in British and American Literature from Guizhou University. He had engaged in postgraduate study of International Economics at the London School of Economics (LSE) from 1973 to 1974. In July, 2006, he was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science in Economics by LSE.
