Maribel Rodriguez joined World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) in 2014. Currently Vice President Europe and LATAM and Interim Vice President Commercial Worldwide, she has built an extensive network within public and private sectors of travel and tourism industry, and gained over 20 years of sales, marketing, communication and commercial experience in Europe and Latin America. Ms. Rodriguez was Executive Commercial Director and Board Member for Travelodge Hotels Spain from 2008 to 2014, as well as Council Member of Madrid Hotels Association (AEHM) and Tourism Commission. Prior to that, she spent 11 years in commercial aviation and was involved in introducing budget airlines Virgin Express, Go Fly, EasyJet and Ryanair in Southern Europe. Ms. Rodriguez obtained an Executive Master of Business Administration degree at ICADE Business School, a Degree in Industrial Psychology from University of Salamanca. She also studied in Senior Executive Program for Travel and Tourism at IESE and JSF.

In essence, tourism is a key element in the realization of a beautiful life for people – enhancing a quality of life that encompasses comfort, security, and happiness.

At this high-level session, leaders from the private and public sectors will discuss how tourism and leisure lead to a beautiful life, enhancing the lives of both the traveller and the local host community. What are the policies, strategies, and products that are optimizing tourism’s transformative force? How has the development and growth of diverse tourism markets, such as adventure, eco-tourism, sports, and wellness, affected the industry both regionally and globally? How are destinations and companies offering experiences that contribute to a beautiful life? What impact will technology and innovation have? How does culture play a role? And as more people cross international borders every day, how can tourism and leisure continue to fulfil their potential?
