CHUI SAI ON

Chief Executive of Macao Special Administrative Region
On behalf of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, I wish to express my warmest welcome and gratitude to all government leaders and officials, corporate leaders, experts and scholars who arrive from around the world to the Global Tourism Economy Forum • Macao 2019. This year marks the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, making it especially meaningful to host the Forum in this momentous year of dual celebrations. Following the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the policy of “one country, two systems” has been successfully implemented in Macao, leading to tremendous progress in the city. The dawn of the new era in our country has ushered in major developments under the Belt and Road Initiative and in the Guangdong-HongKong  -Macao Greater Bay Area, which have given Macao a window of unprecedented opportunities. We are marching into the future with our unyielding dedication to build Macao into a world centre of tourism and leisure, a commercial and trade cooperation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, as well as a hub where traditional Chinese culture prevails and other cultures flourish in harmony, to deepen the implementation of the policy of “one country, two systems” and deliver Macao’s impact as one of the major hubs in the Greater Bay Area and key enhancers for regional development. With our country’s great support, the Global Tourism Economy Forum has burgeoned into a high-level platform for international exchange and cooperation in tourism. Worldwide leaders in the political and economic fields, tourism and other related industries gather in Macao to explore new insights and practices that may extend the economic influence of the tourism industry into different sectors and geographical regions for mutual success. The Forum is making steady progress with time, leveraging our city’s institutional, cultural and geographical advantages to facilitate new possibilities in tourism cooperation and exchange among different delegates. The 2019 edition of GTEF will convene under the theme of ‘Tourism and Leisure: Roadmap to a Beautiful Life’ with Argentina and Brazil, one of China’s major commercial and trading partners in the Portuguese-speaking market, as Partner Countries and Jiangsu as the Featured Chinese Province. Capitalizing on Macao’s position as a gateway between China and the world, the Forum will create new pathways for multilateral collaboration. Through this Forum, the Macao SAR Government aspires to unveil greater new potential for regional cooperation in tourism as well as industry reform and upgrade, joining hands to shape a more sustainable future for the global tourism industry. I am conveying my sincerest appreciation to all participants for your keen efforts in the Forum, and to different stakeholders of our society for your tremendous support. I wish the 8th edition of the Global Tourism Economy Forum another resounding success.
