Chairman of Tourism Malaysia
Dato Siew Ka Wei was appointed the Chairman of Tourism Malaysia on 21 September 2016 to further develop Malaysia’s tourism potentials. An entrepreneur who grew his business empire from chemical distribution in 1983, Dato Siew runs a large diversifed group which comprises three listed companies on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, with businesses from the chemical industry to the media and the education sectors, including the manufacturing and distribution of agricultural chemicals and inorganic chemicals, distribution of organic chemicals, chemical logistics, the out-of-home media, radio, Genovasi (a Malaysian design thinking school in collaboration with Stanford School of Design and SAP’s Hasso Plattner Institute) and fnancial instruments outbound call centre. Dato Siew also co-owns the Malay Mail, a leading independent English newspaper in Malaysia founded in 1896.
Dato Siew was an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organisation (YPO) from 1993 to 2006. He was Chairman of YPO Malaysian Chapter, a member of the International Board of YPO from 2000 to 2004, and Chairman of YPO’s Global Leadership Congress at Beijing in 2003.
Dato Siew was conferred the title Dato’ (DPMP) by the Sultan of Perak in 2002 for his services and contributions to society and the country. A graduate of Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Chemical Engineering and Masters of Science in Operational Research from Imperial College in 1978, Dato Siew received Honorary Doctor of Business Administration (Entrepreneurship) from HELP University, Malaysia in April 2013.
