State Secretary Of The Ministry Of Economics, Latvia
Juris Stinka was appointed as the State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics of Latvia in May 2016. He began his career in public service as a Customs Expert at the State Revenue Service and was promoted to the Head of Unit two years later. In 2004, he served as Customs Attaché at the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the European Union. From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Stinka worked as Deputy Director of Tax Policy Department at the Ministry of Finance. He became Director of Tax Administration Department in 2010, and was appointed as Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance six months later. From 2012 to 2016, he worked as Corporate Affairs Manager at Philip Morris Latvia Ltd., actively contributing to the work of national business associations. Mr. Stinka is a co-founder of Business Against Shadow Economy, a Latvian non-governmental organization which provides research and develops proposals to reduce tax evasion and unfair competition in the country.
Mr. Stinka has a Lawyer’s diploma from the University of Latvia and an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from the Stockholm School of Economics in Latvia. He has also studied Customs and Tax Administration in French Customs School in France and Comparative Tax Policy and Administration at the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States.
