Imtiaz Muqbil is one of the longest serving travel-trade journalists in Asia Pacific. He founded Travel Impact Newswire and has been an Executive Editor since. Born in Mumbai, India, Mr. Muqbil started his journalistic career in Kuwait with local English-language newspapers Kuwait Times, Arab Times and Daily News, and was concurrently a stringer for Middle East Economic Digest, Reuters, Newsweek, McGraw-Hill World News, and Petro Money Report, a Financial Times newsletter. He joined the Thai English-language daily Bangkok Post in November 1978 as Sub-editor/Writer. After stringing for Travel Trade Gazette Asia (TTG Asia) in 1980, he joined full-time in 1981 to cover the Asia-Pacific travel and tourism industry. From 1981 to 1992, Mr. Muqbil was Thailand Bureau Chief and Chief Correspondent for TTG Asia, PATA Travel News and associated publications. He wrote the weekly column “Travel Monitor” for Bangkok Post from July 1992 to July 2012. He also edited Issues & Trends, the monthly publication of PATA’s Strategic Intelligence Centre, between 1998 and 2006. Mr. Muqbil has covered dozens of global travel trade shows, travel industry summits, annual general meetings and conferences throughout his career.
Mr. Muqbil studied at St Peter’s High, a boarding school in the scenic Indian hill-station of Panchgani. He holds a Diploma from the London School of Journalism.
