Director, Monitoring Centre For Unwto Sustainable Tourism Observatories
Bao Jigang has been Director, Monitoring Centre for UNWTO Sustainable Tourism Observatories, a specialized organization in sustainable tourism monitoring under the auspices of UNWTO, since September 2010. Mr. Bao is currently Dean of Graduate School, Professor and Dean to the School of Tourism Management, Professor and Director of the Center for Tourism Planning and Research, and Professor of Center of Urban & Regional Studies of Sun Yat-sen University.
Mr. Bao is also member of UNWTO’s Tourism Panel of Experts, fellow of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism, founding fellow of the International Association for China Tourism Studies, and Vice Director of Tourism Management Higher Education Steering Committee, Ministry of Education of China (2013 – 2017). He is also a consultant for People’s Government of Shanxi Province and Qinghai Province, Tourism Bureau of Shandong Province, Turpan Municipal Government and Habahe County of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and advises tourism industrialization for Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province.
Mr. Bao was the visiting scholar of University of British Columbia, The State University of New York at Albany, University of Waterloo and University of Oregon, guest professor of the University of Hong Kong, Yunnan Normal University, Hainan University, Southwest Forestry University and Beijing International Studies University, and adjunct professor of Southeast University, Guangzhou University and Xinjiang Normal University. He was also the former Vice Chairman of Geographical Society of China (2004 – 2014), Executive Committee Chairman of the China Tourism Academy Forum (2005).
Mr. Bao holds Bachelor of Science in Physical Geography from Sun Yat-sen University, Master of Science in Geography of Tourism from Peking University, and Philosophy of
Doctor in Human Geography from Sun Yat-sen University.
