Union Minister MINISTRY OF HOTELS AND TOURISM, MYANMAR
U Ohn Maung was appointed as Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism of Myanmar in 2016. With over 40 years of experience in hotel and tourism business as well as broad business knowledge, he is instrumental in fostering the country’s tourism and community development, with focuses on capacity building, destination management and tourism promotion during his tenure. One of Myanmar’s pioneers in hotel business, Mr. U began his career at Inle Lake in 1976. In 1996, he founded Inle Princess Hotel in Inle Lake and has since become a huge success. He is also a regional representative for prominent multinational travel agencies Diethelm Travel Agency and Belmond Tours. Mr. U holds a Bachelor degree in Physics.

At this high-level session, leaders from the private and public sectors will discuss how tourism and leisure lead to a beautiful life, enhancing the lives of both the traveler and the local host community. What are the policies, strategies, and products that are optimizing tourism’s transformative force? How are destinations and companies offering experiences that contribute to a beautiful life? What impact will technology and innovation have? How does culture play a role? And as more people cross international borders every day, how can tourism and leisure continue to fulfill their potential?
