With worldwide renowned natural beauty landscapes and sceneries, tourism in Argentina is booming. In the last two years, this country has been the main destination in South America, according to the information provided by the World Tourism Organization, and is receiving more tourists like never before.

Its world famous attractions lure travelers from all over the world, who come to dance tango in the cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, have a traditional asado or experience the passion for soccer. Tourists are welcome to explore the immensity of Perito Moreno Glacier; the legendary forests and lakes in the south; to taste its renowned wines with a view to the Andes in Mendoza; to see the unexplored landscapes of the Puna and its charming small villages; or to fill up with the energy of the impressive Iguazú Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

You can experiment four climates throughout its more than 5 thousand km, and see the immensity of the mountains and its landscapes, visit big cities, feel nature in its national parks and taste its delicious gastronomy, all of that accompanied by the warmth of the hosts.

Moreover, all this diversity of attractions is now accompanied by the new government policy to open up to the world, which is facilitating the arrival of more tourists.

A country more connected with the world: coming to Argentina has never been so easy

One of the main policies for achieving the growth of tourism was to improve the connectivity, so that it became easier to come to Argentina.

As a result, there are many new routes. For instance, new flights come from the United States and Europe, such as the recently inaugurated flight, which connects Madrid-Puerto Iguazú in only 9 hours. The offer of international flights seats has also increased: in 2018, it reached record figures and increased 29% with respect to 2015. Moreover, in the last 3 years, new airlines landed in Argentina such as Air Europa, Azul Linhas Aéreas, Edelweiss, Norwegian UK and Ethiopian Airlines, among others.

In addition, travelling and moving around the country is simpler and more accessible. Whereas tourists needed stop in Buenos Aires in order to connect with different destinations in Argentina in the past, nowadays there are more options to fly in without stopping by the capital city, and there are more direct international flights to cities in the interior of the country. For instance, the new Córdoba hub allows shortening distances and time, and reduces costs, thus generating new travel itineraries.

All this, together with a favorable exchange rate, means new and broader opportunities that have strongly driven the arrival of tourists, as well as a series of measures that met the main needs of travelers. One of them was the VAT refund in accommodation throughout the country.

In addition, in the last few years, the reciprocity rates were eliminated with countries such as the United States, Canada and Australia, and we made progress in the acceleration of visa proceedings in order to simplify travelling to Argentina. For instance, travelers from China can now enter the country by completing only the Travel Electronic Authorization (AVE - Autorización de Viaje Electrónica), if they already have a valid visa to enter the United States or countries of the European Union. The same was implemented for more than 70 nationalities, which needed a visa in the past.

Opportunities multiply in Argentina and nature is the core

The millions of pesos (currency of Argentina) invested in infrastructure, the improvements made in different airports throughout the country, the development of new proposals and destinations, all of these are promoting new private investments, which come along with growth. In fact, in the last three years, more than 200 hotels were opened.

With Buenos Aires as the main MICE destination in the Americas, a growing gastronomy that competes with the best culinary destinations in the region, and the diversity of landscapes and attractions throughout its territory, opportunities multiply and cover all aspects.

Specially, taking into account that tourists will require nature and outdoor activities more and more – Argentina has it all to offer. Landscapes that seem to be from a different planet, 5 Natural World Heritage Sites and the creation of new protected natural areas are accompanied by investment and infrastructure with a clear goal – to make eco-tourism its main product, so that the world thinks of Argentina when they think about nature.

The country is as ready as it has never been to receive more and more tourists, and the figures evidence this. In the first semester of 2019, we broke the historical record, with 3.7 million travelers who came to enjoy all that it has to offer.

Those are tourists who find that there is still more to discover, apart from tango, asado and the renowned wines - from new destinations, such as Esteros del Iberá (wetlands), to the charm of small villages in the North of Argentina, such as Cachi. For all of them, travelling is now easier. From north to south, opportunities grow at the same pace as tourism in Argentina.
